In 1978 Tim and Jack Schwartz bought Neff Taxi which operated in Lancaster
for 30 years. The company operated with six taxi's and about eleven employees. Almost immediately the company was renamed to Friendly Taxi. Within seven months the company expanded its fleet to fifteen and included six new checker
cabs and moved its operations to 32 North Water Street.

    In 1986 the company moved again due to expansion to its current location of
625 East Orange Street. By adding several divisions to the company, the name
Friendly Taxi no longer properly described the company operations, thus the
name Friendly Transportation was born. Friendly Transportation currently has
a Taxi, Paratransit, and Charter division. The companies premiere customers include Red Rose Transit Authority, Norfolk Southern, Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster Newspapers, Travel Agencies, Local Hospitals and many more local businesses.

    Friendly Transportation's sister companies include:
  • Lancaster Fleet and Auto, a full service garage, which maintains the companies fleet vehicles as well as local business fleets and retail customers cars.
  • Friendly Messenger Service provides expedited packages and freight delivery locally and throughout the mid-atlantic region 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our fleet consist of cars, vans, box trucks, and tractor trailers and can handle all of your shipping needs
  • Hertz Rental Car has two locations, downtown at our local office and at the Lancaster Airport.
  • Sunoco A Plus Mini Market at Prince and Orange Streets is a convenience store and provides related companies as well as the general public with fuel.
  • Stevens House lies in the heart of Historic Downtown Lancaster. It is a secure building with key card entry featuring one and two bedroom condominiums, on-site laundry, indoor heated parking, and on-site restaurant and lounge.
  • Absolute Security provides residential and commercial security.
    The companies currently employ approximately 175 people and is dedicated to providing the best possible transportation alternatives to the Lancaster area possible. Today it operates more than 60 (people) transportation vehicles on a daily basis and provides more than 32,000 rides each month.

    Looking forward, we have acquired a 5 1/2 acre lot on Marshall Avenue for our future home. This exceptional location will allow us to continue providing outstanding service as the Lancaster county population expands.
